So I have yet to find a Hungarian beer I really like. Not that that keeps me from drinking my fair share.

There are plenty of decent ones, but none that really do it for me like the micro-brew beers back in BC.

My top Hungarian ones:

  • Dreher
  • Kaiser
  • Soprani
  • Arany Asok

Dreher is the more expensive Hungarian beers (135 HUF, $0.70 CAD), but it’s probably the best tasting. Arany Asok I’m not a big fan of, but it’s pretyt cheap - Maybe 110 HUF ($0.60 CAD) for a 500ml can at the store.

Most of the beers are all Pilsners, and I’m a fan of the darker beers so that’s probably why I’m not so keen on them. Dreher does have a dark beer, but it’s quite carbonated. Good, but you can only drink so much.

Either way - Going out here is so much cheaper than at home. Generally at a bar / pub, for a Hungarian beer, I don’t normally pay more than 250-350 HUF for a 500ml beer unless it’s at a fancy place. That’s way cheaper than in Canada. Even the imports you don’t normally pay more than 500-750 HUF unless it’s a guiness which is onreasonably expensive at around 1000 HUF at most pubs.

Cheaper beer means only one thing though - I drink FAR too much of it. :)
